Takes >60 sec to display contents of My Computer. I have
adjusted registry TcpWindowSize as per KB 315237.

This is a new installation done over the top of Win98SE

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Wayne,

When you click Start and then click My Computer, or when you double-click My Computer on your Windows desktop, Windows may search (a flashlight may appear) for a long time (for example, 5 minutes) before files appear.

Disable the Windows Image Acquisition service.

More Information:

If this does not help, uninstall 821557 hotfix

The TcpWindowSize and article 315237 have to do with networks, not My
Computer.

As noted below in the thread, KB article 819017
specifically addresses the situation I was in. May I
respectfully suggest that the phrase "Windows Explorer
Slow" be added as a key to KB 819017?

My search yielded only KB 315237 (which as noted probably
has more to do with networking, but hey, I've got a 4-PC
LAN and I was desparate!)

Thanks for your consideration!
