Windows explorer.exe gone?

I recently had a problem with windows explorer. It kept looping on me, saying
there was something wrong with it. I clicked restart, which didn't work. I
then tried restart and search internet for a problem. Also didn't work.

So I opened up my windows task manager, and I ended the process of windows
explorer. It seems that I made it disappear, along with my task bar and other
icons. The only way I'm able to type this, is that I'm lucky that I had IE
explorer on at the time. So is there a way to put windows explorer.exe back
on my laptop? Or should I use the Vista disc and reinstall Vista back on my
laptop?

Thanks-
Philip

If explorer.exe is not running on the Processes tab of Task Manager, switch
to the Applications tab, and from the File menu, choose New Task. Type
explorer.exe in the Run box, and press Enter on your keyboard.

You can get to Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del on your
keyboard.

I recently had the same problem, and it was because I had just installed
some "free" antivirus program ... I had to use System Restore to back out to
the day before...

steps I did:
- start in safe mode --- came to a command line
- entered "rstrui" --- which brought up the System Restore screen.
- picked a date/time that would back out the install.

if you aren't taking regular checkpoints, not sure what you do.

I only found this cuz i googled the problem, and others are having the same
problem

HTH. good luck

See ya,
Bill
