For some reason my Windows Explorer no longer appears. I keep getting a standard message -- "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close." I can't open Internet Explorer as well.

Hi,

This may be due to a malware BHO, causing the problem. This applies both for IE and Explorer.

To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet Explorer
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Internet Options.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Browsing, click to clear the Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) check box.
5. Restart Internet Explorer.

Try to open Internet Explorer again. If you are able to open Internet Explorer, then, the problem was caused by a malware BHO. Use BHODemon and spot the malware BHO causing the problem.

Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com and follow this:
1. Start Ad-Aware.
2. Click [Check for Updates] [Connect] and download the latest pattern file if available. and click Finish
3. Click [Start] [Next] (System will now detect the spyware)
4. After the scan is finished, click [Next]
5. Select all the items (checkboxes)
NOTE: Right click on any object in the "Scan result" list and choose [Select all objects]"
6. Click Next and click OK to confirm spyware removal.

Hi,

I remember encountering this problem before. As soon as
you logged onto the computer, it gives you that message
right, then after like 3-4 mins, then you're able to open
your explorer (my computer, my documents, etc.). Try
logging on as another user, if everything works fine then
it's your login. What I did was I removed the login that
is having the problem then restarted the computer (do not
delete the profile folder). Then once the computer is
rebooted, I added the user back on and everything worked
fine after that. Try it.
