A hotel high speed connection or something has my Windows
XP Professional laptop (windows explorer) in a bind.

Opening Windows Explorer, no icons show under My Computer
(like c:, d:, etc). They are there in the drop down
list - click on c: and it shows the contents. The left
side navigation appears with the hiearchy, but the +/-
will not collapse.

In addition, unable to open any MS Word document from
Windows explorer by clicking on it. (will open using
File->Open menu in the application) Windows Media 9
thinks all of my .wma files are bad.

Can anyone help?

Firstly check that your anti-virus definitions are up to date and then do a
full system scan.

If you haven't any A/V software then I think you need some.

This sounds suspiciously like a problem a friend of mine had recently and it
was virus driven.

Good luck

Peter

Tried a full scan with latest updates. Still very odd
errors with Windows Explorer (or IE using file
structure). Any more thoughts?
