How do I change the Windows Explorer default to open the
way it did in Windows 98? That view showed every drive,
plus the desktop, etc. Win XP requires selecting e.g., My
Computer, and then the C: Drive etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i too am seeking this information. i've just switched to
XP and that's one of the things i miss most from 98se.
seems like it should just be a command-line shortcut
and/or a registry edit. this info may be buried
somewhere in these 897 pages of postings, but without
a 'search' feature (hint, hint, Microsoft!), i'll never
find it. i did spend some while reading back page by
page, but to no avail. so mort, let's cross our fingers
that some kind and knowlegable person will (re)post this
info. :) tia to all.

In the 'properties' for the Explorer shortcut, change the suffix from .exe
to .scf ... e.g. %SystemRoot%\explorer.scf

See if that gives you what you're looking for.
