Windows Explorer crashes in XP

I have two seperate Dell computers, one running XP Home and one running XP Professional, and when I use windows explorer to view and manage files/folders, it sporadically crashes. It is very frustrating to be copying files and have W.E. just shut down without finishing the task. When this happens, the window for W.E. just shuts down with no warning box or error statement. This has to be a bug that has been identified, yet I can't find information on it. Please help if you can
