For many months I have had a problem with the Explorer
crashing. Whene ever I open any forlder, open "My
Computer" and on many other actions the Desktop crashes
and an error report is generated. After the error
report is sent, all icons diappear from my desktop and
aftre the desk ttop is "reset" then I can usually perform
the sinmple action I was trying to do. I can not find
reference to this on the forums and website ... Perhaps
I'm not calling it the right thing? This is a basic
problem an I often encounter it dozens of times a day.
I'm running XP home Edition 2002, Service Pack 1. Any
Advice? Thanks,

Chuck this is a very generic description of the situation - hard to
pinpoint what is causing the problem. What you are describing is seen when
explorer.exe is ended and restarts. This can happen for many various
reasons. Most common: an application has crashed and windows forced it
closed and reset -or- the application crashed explorer.

Suggestions:

--Check event viewer for more detailed messages about the errors. To start
Event Viewer: Start> Run> eventvwr.msc This information may give more
specific clues about what the actual problem is.
--Check the system for virus and adware.
--Eliminate unnecessary items loading at startup. You can use MSCONFIG for
this troubleshooting. When/if you find the program giving trouble, try
disabling it via its own startup menus if possible. If not, leave it
disabled in MSCONFIG.
