Windows explorer behaviour

Vista working perfectly until yesterday - had a freeze up when trying to
transfer files from a USB stick - however all seemed normal after a restart.
I also "upgraded" to AVG v8.01 (free) I have no idea if either of these
actions have caused my problem.

Now whenever I open 'any' folder it takes several seconds before the
contents appear. After this all other folders open instantly. If I then
close all the open folders - this behaviour repeats with the first folder to
be opened taking time to open.

It's almost as if some service or other now has to first commence running
but once running it works OK but then shuts down once all open folders are
closed. I've looked at the task manager windows but can't particularly
notice anything stopping or starting

Anyone experience similar or have a cure ?

Does Vista show the USB stick still connected although the USB stick is no
longer in the computer?

No stick shown as being connected - I have also tried other sticks in the
same sockets and they work OK !

I've just done a system restore to the point before I installed AVG v8.01
and my problem has gone so it looks like AVG 8.01 is having some
effect on Windows Explorer.

I'll reinstall AVG 7.5 or change to some other antivirus - to be honest I'm
not impressed with the new AVG control panel and facilities - seems
to becoming bloatware as these programs all seem to do !

This is the security I use!

Vista’s Firewall is very good!

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Above is a link to Avast Free 4 Home Anti-Virus
It is low resource using, free and Vista 32bit and 64bit compatible.
Only have one (1) anti-virus installed; more than 1 can cause conflicts.

For Spyware removal, use the above link to “Spybot Search & Destroy 1.5.2â€
Download it, install it, update it, immunize your system and scan your
System with it.

For a non-scanning, but running in the background, Program to STOP Spyware
being downloaded to your Computer, use SpywareBlaster 4, available at the
above link.
