Windows explorer add new folder icon - a weird second one now appe

I noticed that when I open windows explorer and select File drop down menu
that the 1st entry is a new weird icon (looks like an egg) that says New
folder. If I select it it creates a folder with an animal name. This icon
appears 1st, just before the windows explorer New entry that allows you to
create a New Folder or Shortcut.

Is this some type of virus, trojan, etc. I would appreciate any help in
getting rid of it.

I have always ran Norton Internet Security (current version is 2007) and it
still have suddenly appeared on the menu.

Click Start, Run and type:

reg export HKCR\Directory "%userprofile%\desktop\directory.txt"

Press {ENTER}

Open the file "directory.txt" in your Desktop using Notepad. Copy the contents of the file and include them with your reply.

I have another problem as of today. When I click to open a folder's contents,
some folders do not open, instead the search screen opens. I sure could use
help on this also.

Ramesh, I found the answer to the folder opening issue in a prior post but
still have the weird icon.

ALZip

I was curious about the same thing - so I looked again at the "egg" icon and thought that it looked familiar. I've installed ALZip which seems to have a related GUI theme and looked in the help file. Sure enough, it's a feature.

It is supposed to make it easier to rapidly make folders with distinctive names, so you don't get a lot of "new folder (2)" type of things. Not a bad idea, really, and it prevents me from having to go to a submenu to get a new folder as well. The rest of the application works quite well enough for my needs too.

So, it's ALZip's fault. Hardly a virus, and a removable option through the Tools>Preferences Context Menu tab in the application.
