Everywhere I look ,every "HELP" button I press for 3 day only confuses. I
want to start Windows E-Mail. When I try to send an email I recv. the
following error mssg..

"The host POP3 could not be found Plse. ver.servr.name is correct.

"The host SMPT could not be found Plse. ver.servr.name is correct.

Acct pop3 server pop3 Protocol pop3 port 110 secure (SSL) No socket error.

On a subsequent try there is a reference to an LDAP server.

Yet another info box tell me that I have
Microsoft Windows Ver 6.0
(vista_rtm.061101-2005)

I'll admit to being computer illiterate if MS will admit to being
insensitive to the needs of folks like me. When terminology such as "Server"
is used tell the user where to look for the answer on his computer, instead
of drowning us in a sea of technical jargon. Surely there is a better way to
do this. THREE DAYS !!!! You have succeeded in making me feel like the
village idiot.
Pleasssssse...... I will pay for the damn call....someone from MS call me
and walk me through this nightmare. I cannot send or receive mail on Windows
E-Mail so send a response to the Hotmail address

You do not have the proper names of the incoming (POP3) mail server
and the outgoing (SMTP) mail server. You get those from your ISP.
Is Optimum (optonline.net) your ISP? If so, your ISP has all that
information available online. For example, see
http://optimum.custhelp.com/cgi-bin...XJjaF90ZXh0PW1haWwgc2VydmVy&p_li=&p_topview=1

or use the short URL: http://tinyurl.com/2rlla9

Looks like both servers are named mail.optonline.net.
In Windows Mail, go to Tools, Accounts, select the account,
Properties, Servers, and you'll see the place to enter server names.

Dear Gary
Thanks so much for your help and for taking the time to look into what I was
doing wrong. It turns out that I not only didn't know what a "Server" was
but after you explained it to me I remembered that the Optonline Server was
from several years ago and no longer valid.
Long story short (LONGER ??) I found out what the correct server was-- but I
would still be fumbling around and cursing out Microsoft without your help.
Thanks Again and God Bless
