Last night WU downloaded and installed this Ultimate Extra. The installation
is logged as successful- but I can't locate it even on a search. Where
should it be please?

It's not a "thing" to click on like a program, it's integrated with the
desktop background control after installation.
Right click desktop/Personalize/Desktop Background/Dream Scene Content
category--or just browse to your own video file(s).

Right-click on desktop, select Personalize, click Desktop Background. Under
Location, select Windows DreamScene Content or any other folder with video
files. You can also browse for video if folder you store your videos in is
not listed.

Thanks, Max I'm not the brightest at times,

No problem -- apology (excuse?) not necessary.
;-)
I'm sure you are not the only one that thought an icon should appear
somewhere.

So I followed the instructions and clicked on the MPEG icon and got the error
message "Windows DreamScene cannot run becuase the total desktop size exceeds
the primary video adapter's maximum texture size." Is this related to have
two monitors or something else?

Not related to dual monitors (runs on both of mine--set to two different
resolutions-- as one instance on each).
Did you try adjusting the options beneath "How should the picture or video
be positioned" on the desktop background page?
If so, it may be a particular file issue with your chosen video, or some
sort of video driver issue. Try a different video.

Changing the options didn't change anything, but I notice that as soon as I
choose Windows DreamScene Content in Choose a desktop background I get a
Windows message that says "Windows host processs (Rundll32) has stopped
working.

The others have already explained how to find it. I had the same problem
until I ran some searches to figure out what it even was. In my opinion this
is poor design since it should be more apparent as to what it is that is
being installed and what it is for in advance. (With the old windows update
you could expand each update for a description)

One other note: Before adding videos arbitrarily keep in mind that when you
do they get added to the available backgrounds each time. This means if you
add a dozen or so videos while your playing around it will start filling up
this list fast. Unfortunately MS failed to add an option to easily remove
items from the list so unless you are registry savvy they will stay there. My
suggestion is to add videos to the user\videos folder and then stick to using
ones from there.

Damn! So much for that Pr0n.....

You can do this in Vista too. Just click "View available updates" link, then
right-click update in question and select "View details".

I'll agree however that this is less apparent and personally I'd prefer an
extra column with "View Details" links.
