I used to have a Dell, which, despite its many problems, did prompt me with
several options to download photos from my digital camera when I plugged it
in. I now have an Acer, which is lovely to use, but full of quirks. When I
plug in my digi cam, the computer shows that it recognizes the computer, but
provides me with no options to download or organize the photos. It came with
Windows XP Home Edition, and service pack 2, if that means anything to
anybody. How do I get the computer to allow me to transfer pictures
automatically? This drives me crazy!

Try just going into 'My Computer". See if your camera shows up as a drive in
addition to your other drives. I usually just download from there.

You do not need to have your pics download automatically. It is better to
control the download yourself. Your camera will show up in My Computer as an
extra disc. Click on it to open it as a window, and you will find all your
picture files there. Now you can drag them into any folder of your own
choosing. Or cut and paste whichever you prefer.
Sincerely,
Quilljar
