"Windows did not find any antivirus...."

I'm working on a Windows XP Home (SP2) PC. I have Avast 4.6 Home installed
and it normally puts it "marks" in SECURITY CENTER and keeps from nagging at
me. However, I've seen PCs showing that Avast is installed but the
deffinitions aren't up to date. This is usually fixed rather easily - as one
might think. In this case, SECURITY CENTER doesn't even see that avast is
installed and returns the following message: "Windows did not find any
antivirus software on this computer."

Like I said, this is normally not the case, as Avast shows up and nagging
never happens. SECURITY CENTER sees that AUTOMATIC UPDATES & WINDOWS
FIREWALL are on.

Anyone ever run into this before?

I have a similar issue with my symantec AV, I either shut off the security
center or tell it that I have a solution that I will manage myself.

I have installed Avast 4.6 on some machines before ,they had SP2, and Avast
wasn't recognised by the Security Center .

You can turn off the alerts in Security Center-> "Change the way ..."
