Windows Desktop Search

An older version of Windows Desktop Search has stopped working (repeatedly
says to start WDS from the Start/Program menu, but it does not start).
Therefore, I am trying to install Version 3.01 on an XP SP2 machine
(installation program - WindowsDesktopSearch-KB917013-V301-XP-x86-ENU).
However, I get a "Setup Error" that refers to KB917013 log file. The error at
the end of the log file reports: 00:06.059: ERROR: Start (net start)
WSearch failed - Check Application/System Event log (EventVwr.exe)

Any recommendations about how to install WDS?

IE 7 , in Tools, Options, has a way to set and remove search engines. You
can try removing all and trying the install again.
