Windows defender keeps turning itself off. Several times a day I must
manually restart it. Anyone have any ideas as to why this happens and how to
correct it? Thanks in advance Ps, This program was part of Windows Vista
Premium install.

Do you have Windows Live OneCare installed? Having that running will turn
off
Defender by default, as it's incorporated as a subset therein.

Yes I do. Does that mean I don't need Windows Defender or do I have to do
something to keep it on?

Currently, you don't need or want two versions of the Windows Defender
Engine running concurrently, but should you remove WLOC, standalone
Defender will automatically return to actively running if it's still on
your system though disabled. Actually, it cannot be removed from Vista
under normal circumstances since it's part of that Operating System.

Thanks for the additional info. I now understand how Defender works. It
seems to me that Microsoft should provide this info up front. Now if I could
just get my screensaver working again. I would hate to give up my Wireles
Laser Mouse 5000 to get it back. Anyone else out there with any input,I would
greatly appreciate.

Regarding your screensaver issue, make sure your mouse's wireless receiver
is plugged in and active (this is important). Go to Control Panel (Classic
View) > Windows Update. Click on Check for Updates. Choose to install the
Optional Hardware Update called "Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter".
Your screensaver, with a wireless mouse, should now work.
