When I try to install windows defender beta it comes up and says installer
doesn't support the processor type. I'm using pentium 4 windows xp
professional MC

Hello sassejan,

The 64-bit version is for 64-bit OS versions. Is named Windows Defender64.msi
The 32-bit version is for the 99% of the users is named Windows Defender.msi

The X64 is the 64bit installer - unless you have the 64bit XP Pro (which most
do not have) you will want "WindowsDefender.msi"

Where do I get that?

Hi sassejan,

To avoid future problems, please follow this steps:

1.- Run CCleaner (free from Ccleaner -
http://www.ccleaner.com

Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during install.

Open Ccleaner and start the cleaning, press "Windows" "Aplications" and "Run
Cleaner" from the menu choose 'Issues' and then press scan for issues, Repair
any fºund.

Don`t forget to opt for the registry backup option in Ccleaner.

2.- Install

Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803

3.- Go to Windows Update, do an Express scan, and apply all offered
updªtes

http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature
update with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

4.- I'd recommend downloading, and saving to a known location--like the
desktop.

After the download is complete, disable real-time protection by your
antivirus for long enough to do the installation.

5.- Version 1.1.1347.0

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&DisplayLang=en

Users who normally select advanced Spynet membership should be aware that
the install process will set you back to basic membership, so it's a good
idea to revisit both the Spynet membership area of Tools, and the Options
area--to see what's different, and check that your old choices have been
preserved.

6.- This is the final result:
WD v. 1.1.1347.0
Engine v. 1.1.1372.0
Signature v. 1.14.1404.6

I hope this post is helpful.

Please , rate pºsts.
