I have tried the msiexec link, and dial-a-fix, uninstalled and reinstalled,
but still will not update xp sp2 is it possible that the one care update
is conflicting.

Hello Schowalla,

try this hard won:
go with Your Explorer to:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates\
Then Stop WD (Little Down arrow right to ? in WD)
Then open Task Manager (Ctrl/Alt/Delete)
Stop the next processes:
MsMpEng.exe
Then Delete in C:....\definition updates the Map with the numbers.
Then Start WD again, it give a lot of errors, just go on then You get a
Yellow block in WD with a button update, click on that also several
times and wait, it should update now!
