With recent confirmation of Windows Defender Beta 2 not being released until
early part of next year. Does anyone out there know what is going to happen
between now and 31/12?

They'll have to provide something that extends the expiration date. It's a
quandary. They could put out a simple patch that just changes the date,
nothing else. Or, they could put significant effort into fixing some
specific bugs (votes, anyone?) in beta1, to the detriment of progress on
beta2.

Let's change some bugs. Maybe other bugs appear

Hi Bill

Thanks to you and Andre for the response. Your thoughts are much the same as
mine - a quandry in that I too wonder which way they will go with this. I
think the practical solution would be simply to provide a quick fix patch for
some of the less complex bugs in 1.0.615 with extension. Hopefully, this
would leave them the opportunity to focus more intently on Beta2. Guess much
will depend on how soon into the early part of 2006 Beta2 will appear.

Meanwhile, I will continue to speculate.

Hi Stu

You´ll never walk alone ;) I join you in speculations.

Mr Nash "talks an talks" so maybe he is wrong.

Mr Mike Chan, Product Manager wrote "shortly".

Maybe MS can confirm whats right or wrong within their
malware blog. Please !

Very likely! That's part of the dilemma in making changes to the beta1
product. Maybe they could bring back the flying toast dialogs on, say,
every 6th popup.....

Hi Plun

Mr Mike Chan, Product Manager wrote "shortly".

That comment is about as useful as asking the question. "How long is a piece
of string?"

Personally I have never understood why the mystery and secrecy unless they
don`t have the confidence in meeting their own target dates. If on the other
hand its a question of keeping the competiton guessing. Why do that? They
will only railroad them like they usually do.

These guys are as evasive as politicians.

They are a publicly traded company, with official spokespersons making
forward-looking statements. They have to be very careful and clear about
what they way with regards to product plans and release dates. (and
sometimes clear means unclear!)
