I give up I think this new beta is really junk.
its absouloutely will not update....I have tried microsoft update which
worked before when it would not update...but that doesnt work anymore. I
tried the microsoft support kbig=015105 and that doesnt work either. I will
see if someone has any ideas and if not I am going to uninstall this beta
product which obivously is not far along in its development to even be
released in a beta form...software that wont update what a joke. Microsoft
you struck out on this one go back to product you purchased from Giant at
least it worked this beta 2 is literally junk

I also have had update problems on four separate Windows XP installations,
all of which are running SP2 with all available critical updates from
Microsoft Update. Two of these instances were fresh installs, so it just
baffles me that Microsoft's product would fail so completely on the latest
version of its most cutting-edge, commercially available operating system.

Maybe they're spending all their time trying to make the Vista version work.
I'm delving into Linux a lot more these days and am finding much solace in
the world of Open Source. This decision by Microsoft to kill the AntiSpyware
program and replace it with Windows "Defenseless" is one of the worst moves
I've seen them pull, especially since all links and searches for AntiSpyware
lead you to Windows Defenseless.

I understand the beta process, but when beta 1 consistently outperforms beta
2, it would be nice to have beta 1 still available for evaluation.

Mike and Tom:
Can't say what happened, but after not being able to update Defender upon
installatiion, even trying Bill Sanderson's solution:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105, now, two days later it has
updated itself, apparently using Windows Automatic Update (which Ialso tried
using without success at first) . So, now it seems like it is working like
Beta 1 did, and by clicking on the down arrow next to the "Help" button, then
on "About Windows Defender" there is the opportunity to manually check for
updates. I just did and got no failed update error message, but one that said
there were now no new updates or programs, that it was up-to-date.
