OK! Lets start a versus!
This way I'll understand what the difference is... or should I install both?
We can start off with a basic explanation of the following:

1. Where they come from.
2. What they do.
3. Who does it best.

Hi

Well, start with Windows Defenders home page:

1.
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

2. Protects a user from spyware NOT virus/worms etc !

3. WD ! Or buy Ewido, Counterspy or Spysweeper for spyware protection.

The major benefit with WD is real time protection against spyware
it´s not just a scanner.

Microsoft Antispyware is no longer available from MS beacuse of WD.

It might also be a good idea to also install Lavasoft Adaware as
redundant free scanner. (or Spybot)

And to remove all temporarily junk within your PC.
I prefer CCleaner.

Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during install.

CCleaner quick tour:

After Adaware and CCleaner cleanings install Windows Defender.

A lot of problems with WD are beacuse of messed up PCs and therefore
it´s better to start with Adaware and CCleaner IMHO ;)

Hi Marzeth

I guess it would depend on which side of the fence you sitting in order to
answer your questions ;)

There are those who would only be able to unanimously provide an agreeable
answer to question 1. Namely, Microsoft :)

As for the answers to questions 2 and 3. I will reserve my judgement but
thank you for asking :)

Windows Defender is the beta2 version of Microsoft's Antispyware
application. Beta1 was called Microsoft Antispyware.

Beta1 was largely coded by Giant, the company whose technology and assets
Microsoft purchased.

Beta2 has been re-coded from scratch to Microsoft standards--in fact, Vista
standards.

See Help, for what these applications are intended to do.

Windows Defender is definitely better at what it does than Microsoft
Antispyware was.
