Too late--the windowsupdate.log file says all is successful, but the home
page still reads 1408.8.
This time, I'm going to leave it alone and see what the real experts
suggest.

am leaving the other alone to see if it ever updates properly. Used this:

followed by the `Update WD` option from Add/Remove in Control Panel and now
the Installer shows Windows defs sig 1.20.0.0. while the UI and registry
shows 1.14.1410.10 which I would imagine would be right, since one
presumabley takes its value from the other. Msiexec /x same thing. The
Defender Events log shows defs were updated correctly throughout.
As Bill said earlier, better leave those things to the real experts.

Glenn - did you install over the top of the existing Windows Defender and let
MS uninstall the old one, or did you manually uninstall through Add/Remove
Programs and then reinstall?

I manually removed it through the Add/Remove Programs without problems

This time around, I grabbed the.exe via the windowsupdate.log file, and
downloaded and ran it, and the update went right through. There'd been a
reboot in between that and the previous days failure.
