Windows Defender Update 1.14.1408.8

The link below fails when run with a notice that the application is not
properly configured and might have to be reinstalled. Having the same problem
as others and getting the notices about diskettes and failure to update
using the automatic updater. Also tried the check for updates under the About
Defender menu. No go. This is the first time I have had any problems with
updates for Defender. This was the third of the three updates offered today,
the first two installed OK apparently.

Automatic updated failed again , both using DefenderAbout and Windows
Updates. Did the update using Resolution on KB 915105 and Run
Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}
Will wait for next update, maybe Microsoft will correct the issue.

Also, noted that the "Updates are ready to be downloaded" tray icon keeps
reappearing, and the WD update fails every time. Also in the "Turn off
computer" dialog, there is a sheld over the "Turn Off" button with a note
saying "turn off computer to install important updates". Repeated cold
restarts will get rid of the shield over the turn off button, but only until
the shield icon ion the tray reappears. Might all this have somethiong to do
with the "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)" update that was
installed first?? I have never before been promped for a restart for a WD
update.

I don't think the update problems are related to the WGA notification
update.

Interestingly, I am also getting a repeated update shield, but in my case it
is an oddball update--kb900485.

I actually went out and downloaded it directly from the KB article and ran
the installer from the desktop--apparently with complete success, but the
autoupdate keeps coming even though each time I reapply it it seems to go
fine.

Meanwhile, Windows Defender is happy-updated, and completed a quickscan.

So--I don't know what's going on tonight--must be something in the "ether."

After the update the Windows Install Clean Up was showing the
signature version as 1.20.1408.8. However, WD main screen
was still showing the previous signature version even though
WD said the definition was updated successfully.

Had to manually delete the signatures, and run the update
again.

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1372.0
Definition Version: 1.14.1408.8

,Just too add more fuel to the fire. My updates are set to `Notify` and I was
when the install shield appeared which when maximised showed the WGA
Notification tool beta EULA. I opted to download with a reboot. There was
never any suggestion definition 1.1.1408.8 was also available as I was only
presented with the EULA. OR, did the Install shield appear again after the
reboot. Funny I thought. Why so when there is obviously an update available
from reading these newsgroups? Went to Windows Update site and was offered
the update which never went thru the download process but immediately started
to initialise and install. Funny I thought (again). It must be already
lurking in the bowels of my com. Needless to say, that failed too. Tried
Update thru Defender>Help>About but was given an error 80240022. As a last,
resort fired up my trusty Windows Installer Cleanup utility, removed previous
defs, tried WD>Help>About and SUCCESS !

Efrain, what are we doing wrong - mine failed this time too - last time I
remember we both had success - seems to be on consistency!

Same here, dusty. On two home pc's.

John: It seems they are having big trouble fixing this update issue. I have
prepered myself for the weekly KB915105 Resolution and can update in less
than 42 seconds, from Run to the complete About Check for Updates. LOL.
Because I have purchased and use Live OneCare (for $19.95) , great software
which has Defender integrated, I will not go back to my Ad-Aware, and wait
for the Defender fix.
