answers

help

Go to Defender Help / About (the down arrow next to the ?) and let us know
what the Definition Version is. There may not be an available update for
you yet in your part of the world, or there could be other problems. Are
you a home user or on an office network? Has Defender updated successfully
for you before now? Is your system date correct?

If you want to force an update you can go to this site and do a manual
update before the definitions get distributed through Auto Update/Microsoft
Update/etc. for either 32 or 64 bit systems, although the normal update
process should not require this manual intervention.

Home user
It has updated well befor, but not now that i have a fresh install
System date correct 24rth may 2007

OK, thanks. That helps.

What happens if you go to Windows Update, are you offered the Defender
definitions through there?

Hi Dave M,

Again problem with the Servers, have a look here:

http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...d45-de9e-4fc5-9bc1-2d1d0de6daee&lang=en&cr=US

The problem happen with WD servers.

The Automatic Updates client on your machine pings servers every 17 to 22
hours to see whether you need updates, so either at 3 a.m. (by default) or at
a time select.

I been getting this errors, when I try the manual D/L:

0x80240022
WU_E_ALL_UPDATES_FAILED
Operation failed on all specified updates.
0x80240022 -2145124318 WU_E_ALL_UPDATES_FAILED operation failed on all
specified updates

0x80244019
WU_E_PT_HTTP_STATUS_NOT_FOUND
Http status 404 - object not found.
0x80244019 -2145107943 SUS_E_PT_HTTP_STATUS_NOT_FOUND Http status 404 -
object not found

0x80246005 WU_E_DM_NONETWORK
Network connection was not available.
0x80246005 -2145099771 SUS_E_DM_NONETWORK Network connection was not
available

Any way, I'm sure this NG (and others) is going to be busy for a few hours.

Have fun.

OK Engel, thanks for bringing that to our attention.

Edwardo, the update servers are having problems right now many people are
reporting problems. You can either wait until tomorrow and try that update
from within WD again or go to the portal and manually update, which might
not be a bad idea since your definitions are so out of date. At least that
way you'd be protected until the update servers come back. Again that web
site is:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/

....where you want to get the 32bit Defender definitions. Running from that
site should bring you up to the current engine and signatures by bypassing
the Auto Updates. Let us know next week if your automatic updates resume
as they should normally.

Hi dave

solved the problem, downloaded the definition manually and ran MSmpeng
and updated fine

But tjis seems a common issue that isnt resolved yet in the latest
version, the team should specify if its a server proble,or fix the bug
