I cannot believe that time after time Microsoft comes up with such pieces of
trash like Windows Defender. Is that the best they can come up with?

I spend so much money buying an operating system from microsoft and this is
what i get?

Defender, for one, is crap, it makes your system unresponsive, not to
mention the fact that it drains all your systems resources.

Even to perform a quick scan it takes ages and during the entire scan I
cannot work on any other application..

Better wake up microsoft. U suck.

Hmm - This is refreshing. It's been awhile since we've had such candor in
these groups--or, if not precisely candor--this level of sentiment.

Pramodpaluri: I'd recommend that you consider applying this patch to your
system:

Your symptom discussion doesn't specifically aim at this, but it is possible
that it is a part of the syndrome you describe.

I've run Windows Defender on Pentium iii 300 and 350 machines, and haven't
had this kind of experience with them--but throughout the beta there were
occasional users who did desribe their experience very much this way.

Are you running other real-time protection--an antivirus app, for example?
What app? If you turn off real-time protection in that other app, how does
the situation change? Can you update the other app?

Consider either removing Windows Defender, via add or remove programs, and
then reinstalling it--or, doing a repair--start, control panel, add or
remove programs, Windows Defender, click here for support information, then
repair.

I don't have a sure cure for your set of symptoms--but I can tell you that
they are not typical--if they were, given the 10's of millions of users of
the product, there'd be more traffic here.
