Windows Defender probblem.

Windows Visa installed defender v1.1.1505.0 Def. 1.15.2233.6. I get a msg
saying "This program can"t install updates". error code 0x80070643. I'm
trying to install Def. 1.15.2240.5. Can anyone tell me whats wrong?

Open Windows Defender and look in Help | About.
What version of the definitions do you have?
 
Tried again to update windows defender and got msg "This program can't
install definition updates". It presently is version 1.1.1505.0, engine v
1.1.2101.0, definition version 1.15.2233.6. It failed to install def v
1.15.2321.2. I'm using the new Vista OS. Help me! Please.
 
I have no ideal what Microsoft support did. it just starting working after I
spent abount 2 days talking to them and doing different things they told me
to do.

I also had a series of problems similar to this that began with Windows
Oncecare/Defender last week including some bluescreens while using the
Performance and Reliability Tools.
After digging around a bit it looks like someone deliberately replaced DLLs
and suchlike on my copy of Defender.
Uninstall One Care/Reboot/Install One Care seems to have cured it.
I'm going to be a bit more paranoid now about letting people use my PC.
