Hello all, i installed windows defender beta2 and also have the issue of the
notification: your definition files are xx old..while they should be
updated. I followed the troubleshooting tip to clean the definition files but
it didn't help. After this however i cannot open my gmail account anymore, it
seems something blocks it and i suspect it has somethingto do with defender
beta2, maybe microsoft annoying google with the customer in the middle.. Does
anyone has knowledge about this? Thanks a lot in advance, Eric

Hello Eric,

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
adinistratºr.

This is the key!
The installation as an admin is not enough.
You needed to login as an admin.

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs?

Latest version is as follows:
1 Jun 2006
WD v. 1.1.1347.0
Engine v. 1.1.1441.0
Signature v. 1.14.1471.6 created on 5/30/2006 at 10:48 PM

There are many pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and
signature update with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

If you are up to date with Windows Update, please follow KB 915105 ªs the
next step:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105

Can you explain what troubleshooting tip to clean the definition do you use?

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Hello Engel, thanks for your reply!
My windows update has the latest download, my windows defender has the
latest versions that you have indicated. I always log in as administrator. I
have used the microsoft support tool, Msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} but the notification that my
definitions are too old is still present. I also can't login to my email
account, my connections jams at the authorisation code of gmail.com. It tries
again and again with different codes but can't get trough. Disabling both
windows defender and my zone alarm pro firewall has no effect. If you have
any additional suggestions i'd be most obliged, Eric
