Windows Defender install error 1609

Trying to install the new Windows Defender beta 2 on a fresh HP machine with
Windows XP SP2 and all patches installed. Also Mcafee installed.

When I start the install and select all the defaults the install fails with
error 1609 an error occurred while applying........

Can anybody help me resolving this problem?
Microsoft Antispyware installed without any problem.
 
I'm running a Dutch windows XP version.
The problem can be resolved by creating a group called "Users"

Can you check som german forums about this ?

I don´t know any good ones. (Running swedish version)

Your version has a lots of users and I´m sure that
someone running a german version will find out a workaround
how to install.

XP SP2 HOME edition
can't creat group because of the home limitations...

can someone make it compatible with home on non-enlgish versions ?

Same problem with Portuguese version plus I can't create groups but this is a

Steps to install Windows Defender

1.- Create an account called Users ((Start---->>Control Panel---->>Account
Users---->>New Account))
2.- Set as Limited Account User. Don't set any password
3.- Click on Create Account.
4.- Run the installation program of Windows Defender

That's all. I have the same problem and do this, and works. My SO is XP Home
Edition. Best regards from Mexico!!

1.- Crear una cuenta de usuario llamada Users ((Inicio --->>Panel de control
---->> Cuentas de usuario ---->> Nueva Cuenta de Usuario))
2.- Establecer como Cuenta de usuario Limitada. No crear ningun password.
3.- Click en Crear cuenta
4.- Inicia el programa de instalacion de Windows Defender

Listo, ahora si se puede instalar. Yo tenia ese mismo problema y eso fue lo
que hice. Mi SO es XP Home Edition. Saludos desde Mexico

1. (Start -> Run...) net localgroup Users /add
2. Install WindowsDefender.msi.
3. (Start -> Run...) net localgroup Users /delete
 
Noreña, thank´s for your easy-to-follow nstructions. This worked perfect in
my Finnish XP SP2 home edition.
