Windows Defender Instalation Problem

I have installed Windows Defender (Beta 2) on several computers with no
problems. I am now having a problem installing it on a Dell Latitude D610
notebook with Windows XP SP2 and all patches current to 03/04/2006.

The installation proceeds normally until the "Installing Windows Defender"
Status progress bar is displayed. The installation freezes at this point. The
progress bar never starts and no error message is displayed. Clicking on
Cancel has no discernible effect, and End Task will not kill the Windows
Defender application, but other applications seem unaffected. The only way to
recover is a hard reset.

The version of WindowsDefender.msi I am using was downloaded on 03/04/2006
and has a Digital Signature timestamp of Friday, February 17, 2006 1:41:10 PM.

I am not running a foreign language version of XP (the "Users" group does
exist).

I am running msi.dll version 2 (3.1.4000.2435), which I have reinstalled for
good measure.

I have run scans with up-to-date versions of Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D,
and Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition, all with negative
results. I have tried the installation with Norton both disabled and enabled,
with the same results. I have run ScanDisk, Disk Cleanup and Defrag with no
problems reported.

I have no other problems on this computer, and am totally mystified as to
why this installation freezes. I would appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

Hello Chip,
Try to Disable the Anti-virus during the Installation of WD.
