Windows Defender 'hangs' when performing a full scan

I have been using Windows Defender for a couple of weeks now having replaced
Micorsoft Antispy beta 1 with it. I have installed it on y desktop and on my
laptop. When I try to do a full scan on my desktop the program scans for
about an hour (an amazingly long time!) and then 'hangs' on the same file (a
Microsoft Word document) whilst at the same time trying to read from my 'A'
(floppy disk) drive. I have no problems performing a full scan on my laptop.
Both machines are running Windows XP SP2.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and can you suggest what I might do
to alleviate it. I should have added that the file the program hangs on with
my desktop is also on my laptop but the program doesn't have any problems
with it on there.

The last time you opened this file it was probably on a disk in your "A"
drive. Have you tried placing a disk in a drive with that file on it?

Thanks for that. It seems to run OK with the relevant floppy disk in the
drinve. Seems like my problem is sorted. Many thanks,

Ian B
