I have tried to download windows defender 30-40 times on my computer and
everytime it gets to 89-90% downloaded it freezes and will not continue. The
computer does not freeze the download just stops and I have to try again.

It goes thru the validation fine.

Please Help!

This has been posted a number of times, and I'm not sure we ever reached a
good resolution. One thing I think of immediately is that you should try
disabling real-time scanning in your antivirus while downloading.

Thanks for the suggestion Tom, unfortunately no changes still freezing the
download at 89%.

Any other thoughts!

I really don't have a picture of what's going on here. About all I can
think of is an ISP cache that is corrupted.

You might try going via a third-party download site--download.com or
filehippo.com are what come to mind. I haven't checked to see that these
have the latest build, but they very likely do--the date on the download
should be April 12 or later.

I was toying once with a product that would optimize MTU size and Max Receive
Buffer size to optimize Internet performance. After the changes, I noticed
that some of my downloads would not complete. When I reset the parameters,
the downloads would complete with no problem. The best I could figure out
was that there was a conflict with the parameters set by the Network
Interface Control Card drivers. Have you made any TCPIP tweaking changes to
the registry or using an Internet accelerator program, etc......

I finally got it to work after weeks. I had been using a wireless linksys
router. I decided to try and hook up straight through my DSL modem and "bam"
first time I tried the download worked.

THanks for the suggestions and help.

Thanks--that at least gives me some additional questions to think of asking
in this situation. I'm not sure what to suggest as the real cause, though.
I think I'd be out looking for firmware updates to the router, though.

That is what worked for me after seeing this post. I disabled my Norton
Anti-virus File System Auto-Protect and the Download finally finished. In all
the downloads I've done over the last couple of years with Norton running,
I've never had this problem

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks for the confirmation. There seem to be multiple causes for this
issue, but yours is among the more common. I don't have any theory about
why this happens--just that the solution works.
