Defender is updating to: 1.53.288.0

I assume this is a fix to the INEXCUSABLE FALSE POSITIVE to MS Windows own
Hosts file. I WILL NOT POST THE LINK until I can confirm this.

?:-)
Tim

Confirmed, the INEXCUSABLE FALSE POSITIVE has been removed!

Seriously MS, This is why I don't recommend the Daily's from the Portal, if
you can't be trusted to get the semiweekly's right, how can you be trusted to
get the "Not Beta" daily's right, on your own hosts file for Pete's sake :(
Are you guys doing Any testing at all, shesh :(

The link is as follows:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/m..._08e7aeb29ea7b404f04d71b97ab9a0ddcdd022c8.exe
Size is 356kb, and it will not trigger a system restore point

:(

Tim Clark:

I performed the CLEAN for this False Positive. (I wrote the details in the
General Section Under Buck's Question "what does Clean mean").

I am at the stage to PERMIT or DENY the change/action. What do you suggest
that I do. I think I should DENY the WD change/action but I am not certain.

Thanks,
Ron

Okay. I selected DENY and then ran a WinDef Scan and got the False Positive
again (I am glad I did not select PERMIT!). Then I got the WinUpdate notice
that there were 5 updates ready. I selected 4 and left the WinDef 1.53.228.0
unchecked. After the 4 other updates were installed, configured, and after
the Restart, I installed the WinDef Update .228. After a Scan, it removed
the False Positive inherent within 1.53.256.0.

Thanks Tim for noting the MS error and the irony is I was having trouble
accessing the Internet with similar results stated in the False Positive Host
error. Coincidence!

I'm wondering what the parameters are for this false positive to be seen?

What version of Windows are you running?

Is your hosts file modified from the defaults?

Interesting--I'm surprised I didn't see it on any of my systems.

All of my WinDef parameters were set on the default action alerts.
