windows defender/can't find

I hope someone can help.I'm not a computer genius at all but i thought i had
defender.I do have wloc on my windows xp home edition,laptop.Anyway yesterday
i think i got a bug that is slowing my computer down a lot so i went to go
to windows defender to run a scan as i did in wloc(which found nothing)and i
could not find defender.Now i've had some wloc problems a lot in 6 past
months and tech support at microsoft has uninstalled and re-installed wloc 5
or 6 times plus done other things in my registry to help fix.I tried to
re-download defender from windows site and it says i have to uninstall wloc
from my system!! I'm lost,1st i thought i had it,and 2nd why would microsoft
want me to delete wloc for another one of there programs? Can anyone give me
any suggestions?
 
Microsoft has not communicated well in this case. Windows Live OneCare
incorporates the functionality of Windows Defender. So--you don't need to
do a separate scan with Windows Defender, and, in fact, it isn't available
with recent OneCare versions.

So--don't worry about this--continue to use OneCare, which provides
antivirus protection as well as antispyware protection--it will find
anything that Windows Defender would.
 
The same thing happened to me, Lost Defender. My last def update for Defender
was on 6-11-07 and somewhere after that the program disappeared. I too
subscribe to WLOC and am using XP on this computer. Bill Sanderson is right
that Microsoft has done a lousy communication job. They forgot to tell me
that they were going to delete Windows Defender from my computer.
