Hi Diarmuid,

From your descriptions, I understood that you would like to find "Windows
Component Update CD" when installing Office XP Developer Edition ask you
insert. Have I understood you? If there is anything I misunderstood, please
feel free to let me know :)

Based on my knowledge, Windows Component CD is used for Visual Stdio Setup.
You could find the description for it in MSDN like this:
The Visual Studio .NET Setup Runtime Files are installed during the Windows
Component Update portion of Visual Studio .NET Setup. You cannot remove
these files from Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. If you want to
reinstall the Setup Runtime files, run the installation file Bootstrap.msi
that is located in the root folder of the Windows Component Update CD-ROM
or in the WCU folder on the DVD-ROM.

Above could be got from HOW TO: Remove the Visual Studio .NET Setup Runtime
Files
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q315779)

I am not very sure about whether MSDN will have that Visual Studio
Installation Disk, IMO, you could make a try insterting that DISK (usually
the last CD of VS Installation Disk Set)

If you could not get it, I think you'd better have a look at the following
documents, which will show you have to get it
INFO: Replacing Damaged or Defective Visual Studio Product Disks
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q284230

Anyway, if you still could not make it, would you please show me more
detailed information about your machine environment? Based on my test, I
could successfully install Office XP Developer Edition on my machine. I
think there exists some file corruptions.

Hope this helps and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free
to let me know :)

If your package is the same as mine, it is the second disk in the
Developer Edition set - the top one on the first green page of the
opened disk package.

I ran the Visual Studio Windows Component Update, but I still have the same
problem. I phoned the MSDN people, they say the download should be at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/downloads/

but I can't find it there. I rang them back, but they can't find it there
either. I asked could they send out a CD, but they said they no longer
support Office XP!

The operating system is Windows XP. I had Visual Studio.net installed, but
Office XP Developer still looked for the components CD. I removed Visual
Studio, and tried using the last disk for Office XP, and that didn't work.
Then I tried using the Visual Studio Windows Component Update CD, but that
didn't work either. I'm out of ideas, so any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Diarmuid

Hi Diarmuid,

Thanks for your update!

First of all, I am not sure why MSDN people will tell your Office XP is no
longer supported, From the link below, you could find Office XP's support
is described as, No charge personal incident support and personal
pay-per-incident support will continue through June 30, 2007. The extended
support period for Office XP will last from July 1, 2006 through June 30,
2008.
at Office Family Products Support Lifecycle FAQ
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=lifeOffice#faq3028

Secondly, would you please try to find out whether Peter's suggestion is
useful? Could you find the correct Windows Component Update CD out follow
his instructions?

Thirdly, have a look at readme.htm from Office XP Developer, you would find
the following descriptions, that Windows Conponent Update is included in
the package.
1.3. CDs Included in Office XP Developer
Microsoft Office XP Developer - development tools and samples for Office
developers
Windows Component Update - required operating system components updates
Microsoft Visual SourceSafe - source control software
Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Developer Edition - develop and test version
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 for Office XP Developer - develop and test
version of SQL Server 2000 Personal
Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage - Office installation
Microsoft Office XP - media content

I think you'd better call MSDN people again and order an Update CD or try
to find out what it is in your MSDN package:)

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions or
concerns, don't hesitate to let me know.
