Windows closing Virus

I have a problem with my computer. When I try to scan with Norton or to open Regedit or task manager, the applications are closing. I got to scan my PC using a scan I found on the web and it indicated that I have backdoor.sd.gen virus. Since I cannot use my Norton to remove the virus, how can I remove it?
