When i start my computer I get "Windows cannot start
because the following file is missing or corrupt"
winnt/system32/config/system. Can I fix this without
losing all my data? Thanks for any help

Boot from your XP CD. Then select the partition Windows is currently installed on and then select Repair. That should do it.
