Hello
It is windows 2000 professional. Unless I have one instance of IE already
open, if I clcik on any URL or html file, embeded in email message body or
windows is unable to find and open IE.

I 've tried associating the files (.html .. etc) using Folder Options ->
File Types it did not help.

Removing IE and reinstalling it, is a night mare.... any tips out there?

Why not try Repairing IE instead of the uninstall/reinstall. It may be that
all you need to do is run a repair of your Windows 2000 to resolve the
problem. Here are the instructions on how to do this if you do not already
know how:

WIndows 2000 step by step repair instructions:

How to perform an "in place upgrade" or system repair.

You will also have to go to the Windows Update and reinstall all the
necessary updates.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Thanks Jan and Hans
The URL's you've provided me with, lead me to verify all the entries in the
Windows registery and made the proper correction as following:

I searched the registery class HKEY_USERS for all occurences of
iexplore.exe, one of the entries I found had a wrong path for iexplore.exe
(a space was removed !!). I corrected the path, rebooted the PC, it worked.
I am happy!!

thanks all
