Internet explorer 6 on windows xp when i open ie6 to a blank home page
it opens ok. then when i click on any favorite or link it will open a
2nd window with an error message that "Windows cannot open the
'(null)' blah blah etc. It seems to be opening too many windows and the
first one is allways an error message, then it will sit there blank while in
the second ie
opening window there is the web site opening ok. So i then have 3 open
internet explorer windows open on the taskbar. The original blank
window that i started with, the second window that had come up with
the missing error and then the third window that has only the required
site.

How do I fix this problem? Its driving me CRAZY already!!!!!!

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
