I get this message "Windows cannot find the local
profile. Windows may be corrupted. Contact adminstrator."

How do I correct this problem? Do I need to reformat my
hard drive?

Hey, Mike at Home.

No, reformatting is NOT absolutely required. You can
create a new Administrator/User Account, save all profile-
dependent files/settings/info to a convenient place (for
example, Desktop), delete the "old" you, log on as
the "new" re-named you and be good to go.

HOWEVER, there may lurk hidden dangers; for example, some
permissions may not be inherited by the "new" you, files
encrypted by the old will not be accessible to the
new, etc. There is a KB article at support.microsoft.com
which I can't remember.

If you have used your system for awhile, a clean install
may be a good idea, in any event.

Good luck.

John
