windows cannot find rundll32.exe

I have windows xp. I get this message when I click on windows security
alerts or if I click on start/ control panel, add remove programs. Then if I
click Start, Run, sfc/scannow .... then I get windows cannot find
sfc/scannow

Hi Steve,
You typed the command wrong it should read:
sfc /scannnow
There is a space between sfc_/ and the slash (/) or copy this and paste
into your command:
sfc /scannow

Nass, I tried running sfc /scannow. It ran normal, I restarted pc; I still
get the same error message. What do I do now?

This can indicate one of two reasons:
1- bad or corrupted Rundll32.exe and you need o copy from your CD or the
Installation direcorty (cache)!
2- An infection causing this corruption and you need to scan for malware and
viruses.

Run a thorough scan by doing the following steps:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Tabs:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
