Windows cannot find file

I have started getting this error message when double-clicking to open an
existing file in an Access 2003 database. The error says "Windows cannot find
the file [full path\filename.mdb] Make sure you typed the name correctly and
try again" Then there is an OK button.

The thing is, it DOES open the file, even with this error message. I click
on "OK" and the error window closes, and the folder where the file is opens
as well. So I can open the file, but this error is annoying! It doesn't give
the error if I open Access 2003 first, then open the file.

Any help would be appreciated
 
What are you double-clicking: the file name within the Access Most Recently
Used list, the file in Windows Explorer, the list in Start Documents, or a
shortcut to the file?
 
I have a short cut to the folder that contains the file on my desktop. I open
the folder short cut and double click on the file name.

I'd try recreating that folder shortcut or putting a shortcut to the database
file on the desktop.

OK, I sent a shortcut to the desktop and now the error windoow says a Network
Error: "Windows cannot access [path\filename.mdb] Check the spelling of the
name. Otherwise there might be a problem with your network. To try to
identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.
Error code 0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified"

I clicked on Diagnose and it said there were no problems with my network.
The file opened up despite the error message.

The folder is in my Public folder on that computer. Could that have
something to do with it?

I seem to remember something about right-mouse click and Run as
Administrator. See if that helps your issue...

Well, you are on to something. This is on a computer where I set up a
separate user account. Opening the DB works when logged in as administrator,
but not as this user. Problem is that the "run as administrator" option is
grayed out. I googled for an answer to this and saw that I should deactivate
the UAC. I did that, but still get the same error on opening the file and run
as admin is still grayed out.
 
I am in uncharted territory BUT I ask anyway... Can you load to a User
account as an Administrator?

Sorry, I don't understand what you are asking. I was able to open the file
without the error when logged in as the administrator. I have a separate user
account set up for a contractor to access the computer to do work on the MDB
file, without access to other data on the computer. That appears to be the
problem. That account cannot open the file without the error.

What I am saying is when you install software on the User account does it
give you an option to install it as an Administrator. Like ask a question
that as part of the install?
