When logging on to a Windows 2000 client, this
errormessage occurs. After this error, the next
message "Limited virtual memory" shows up. Next, the
system will try to reconnect to it's network resources and
at the moment you're expecting to get to the desktop, all
network connections are closed and the login-screen shows
up again (and the procedure repeats).

The exact errormessage is:

"Windows cannot create profile directory C:\.PDS. You will
be logged on with a local profile only. Changes to the
profile will not be propagated to the server.
Contact your network administrator."

The directory C:\.PDS does exist on disk. Removing the
directory or clearing it's content doesn't solve the
problem.

have u tried -disabling the romaing profile i.e chaging to
a local profile on the client and disabling the roaming
profile on the server

Yes I did, though the profile being used was a local
profile! In order to try this, I did just as you said but
the other way around: I enabled the profile to be roaming
for this user but without any result; the same
errormessage appeared.
