Dear all

I just configured a Linux server as a BDC and joined a Windows
2000 active directory. I now get Windows can not determin it's computer
name. I did make a mistake in setting the netbios name of the linux machine
to the same name as the W2k server.

Coincidently the space on two of the partions were full the
w2k server I have turned of the Linux samba server now but still can not
access the active directory user names as I keep getting Windows can not
determin it's computer name.

Is there any way I can set it's name again.

Regards Carl

Hello Carl,

As I understand that your issue is that your Domain controller is
experiencing some problems with active Directory after Introducing Samba
Server.

We have two options here :
1-
If you have not Done so, Please install Support tools form Windows 2000
Server CD.

Open Adsiedit from the Support tools Menu.
Start->Program ->Windows 2000 Support Tools->tools->ADSI Edit
1- Expand Domain NC {YourDomain}
2-Expand OU=Domain Controllers
3-Select You Domain Controller and then Right Click -->properties
4-in Select a Property to view Pull down menu Select UserAccountControl
Verify that the Value is (532480) -- If not Change it
Close ADSI Edit.

Reboot the Domain Controller.

Run DCdiag and verify that there is no errors

2-
If you have a second Functional Domain Controller on the Network you can
do the Following

1- Transfer the FSMO roles to a health DC.

2- Run DCpromo and remove AD. If Failed, Run DCpromo /Forceremoval.

3- Perform Meta Data Cleanup.

4- Run DCpromo and Join back the Domain.
