My new computer (running Windows XP) can't boot. For seemingly no cause, I get an error-message telling me that the says approximately the following (translated from my native language, Danish)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows couldn't start because the following file is damaged or is missing

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTE

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Installation by means of the installation program cd-rom

Choose 'r' in the first screen view in order to repair

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't have clue what can have caused this problem. I constantly update my anti-virus system (Norton) and I use a firewall

I'll be very grateful if you'll please be so kind and help me

I'm sorry if this seems like some stupid questions to you! I'm not a very technical guy on this point.
