I am trying to use the backup utility but keep getting the message "not legal
file name or path". I am selecting my dvd burner to be able to burn the
files to it but that is apparently the problem as if I select the floppy
location then alls o.k. That of course is not a viable option. What gives?
How do you get around that? thanks mickey

I have a newly installed 2nd HDD in my system. I would like to use the
backup utility to back up to that location, after which I would copy to DVD.
I want to use the backup utilitly because it may automatically back up
something that i may not be aware of to do, if I do the back up manually.
The problem is the dive I.D. doesn't show up in the backup menu and won't
allow me to enter it. [J:\] The above is on the desktop but for my laptop I
don't have the 2nd HDD option. what would you suggest there. thanks mickey

That's ntbackup.exe. It won't back up to CD or DVD UNLESS you
have packet writing software installed. In other words, it won't
do it by default.

When you get the floppy selection window, look around; it allows
you to "browse" or something like that. There you can select
where to back up to, other than your floppy. Whatever choices
are there are all you will have.

You should be able to backup to your hard drive and then copy
the files to you CD/DVD. Pay attention to the screen when you
run it; the choices ARE there.
