Windows Autoupdate question

XP Pro SP1

I have autoupdate turned off thru the control panel applet. Why does
wuauclt.exe still run at startup?

It will continue to monitor the Windows Update web site for updates.
It just won't download, install or prompt you to download and
install, Windows Updates if you turned off the automatic feature.

Hi Norm,

If you want to turn off windows update totally then go to START > Control
Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

Once there select "Automatic Updates" rightclick > Properties then using the
combo box change its start-up type to disabled. Do the same thing for
"Background Intelligent Transfer".

The Windows update site will no longer work so once a week (or whenever)
just change these two back to "Automatic" start-up and reboot,
check/download/install updates then change them back.
