A friend of mine has recently bought a cheap second hand pc and wants a wee bit of advice as to the cheapest and best version of windows to run to suit the limited use it will get, it will only be used gain access to the internet, a bit of music and photographs plus the usual microsoft office stuff, word excel etc

well, one quick phone call later and i`ve been given the following info
512mb ram
1.34ghz amd athlon processor
v266b motherboard
40gb hard drive

hope this helps, the advice from work is go for xp home sp2

Thanks a lot, i`ll pass it on
i assume the link you gave will be hard to beat
price wise

i noticed on the link that the version of windows is OEM, does that make any difference, is it any different to the original windows xp home as there seems to be such a wide swing in prices for what seems to be the same operating system

No difference whatsoever:thumb: the difference in price is OEM =£60.00 >> Retail version £100.00 + as it comes in a box:nod: so your paying basically for a box and a book:user:

If you buy the full retail version what info is in the box?

Only ever bought OEM, cheaper & i do hate helping bill & paul to get richer:rolleyes:
