Hi,

I've just promoted a Windows 2003 server to DC in our forest root
domain, after sucessfully completing forestprep and domainprep a few
weeks ago. This is the first 2003 DC in our forest.

After a sucessful promotion to domain controller and initial
replication, I promoted the machine to global catalog. The promotion
to GC seemed sucessful, but a few minutes later NTDS generated the
following eventlog error - ID 1173 (full text below), causing the
machine to reboot.

This seems very simalar to the problem described in 824226, (later
superseded by 828297 due to a memory leak), which relates to Windows
2000 domain controllers. I did encounter this problem with Windows
2000 AD controllers in my domain, but only very infrequently. Is this
the same problem appearing in Server 2003? If so, is there a patch or
workaround from MS? I'd like to know what caused this before proceding
further with my upgrade of the domain to AD 2003.

Thanks in advance,

Mark
