I have just installed a new mother board and had to
reformat my hard drive, as you do.

but when i reinstalled Windows (Professional) back on, it
said that i had to activate windows.

Now its at the point where i have only 15 days to go
before, i guess, its going to lock up windows.

the thing is, i already activated windows the last time i
installed it, so what do i do now.

i would appreciate help on this one.

Just try and active it, if it won't do it over the internet, you can alway
telephone MS and activate it that way if need be.

i dont know about you but this web site isnt exactly the
most user friendly!

but what its saying is that i have exceeded the amount of
times that i can activate windows.

but ofcourse im going to exceed it if i have to reinstall
windows every time i install a new mother board, or what
ever.

then again i may not be as computer literate as i thought.

do you know of a toll free number from New Zealand for
microsoft.

Hello
If you have an OEM version of XP then you will not be able to transfer it to
a different computer. (different MB is the same as different computer) The
only way this is possible is to install a MB with the same as the one you
took out, ie. same chipset and this sort of thing.
OEM versions can only be installed on the same computer and can be activated
as many times as needed.
Retail versions can be transferred to different computers if removed from
the previous computer (1 license, 1 computer) and can be activated as many
times as necessary, can only be activated over the internet every 120 days
apart if moved to a different computer, otherwise you will have to call to
activate.
If reloading on the same computer you can activate over the internet
whenever needed.

That is actually not necessary. Just in case you ever have to do
this again see http://michaelstevenstech.com/moving_xp.html for
detailed information.

Yes. When you reformatted the hard drive the activation control files
on it were wiped out, along with everything else.

What actually happens when you try to activate it over the Internet?
Does it reject your activation for some reason? If so then you may
have to do a manual activation by telephone. Select the telephone
activation item and phone the number it gives you. It should only
take about 5 minutes.

Good luck
