Windows Activation

I have reinstalled Windows XP Professional on my computer, and when I try to
download Window Updates, I am notified that I need to activate Windows. When
I try to activate Windows, at the conclusion, I am told that the activation
was incomplete.

It's been about six months since I originally installed Windows on this
computer, so I'm well beyond the 120 days since the last installation.

Any suggestions on how to complete this activation?
 
Try using the Toll free number to activate. Go to the activation screen
again and select activate by phone. make a note of the number you should
call and then follow the wizard through. When you arrive at the screen with
the activation codes on dial the microsoft activation centre. you will be
asked to type the numbers you see on your screen onto your telephone keypad.
This part of the operation is automated. After inserting all the numbers, if
everything has gone ok, you will be given another set of numbers to type in
the vacant columns just beneath the product numbers. Type them in and your
copy of Windows should activate. If it doesn't, then you will be transferred
to a 'real' person who will go through the procedure with you.

It turns out that my Windows XP is activated. When I go to
Start>Run>C:\Windows\System32\oobe\msoobe /a, I am told that Windows is
already activated.

When I go to Start>Microsoft Update>Express, I get the option "Help me
validate Windows and get all important updates for my computer." When I
chose that option, I am then told "Validation incomplete:Unable to perform
validation."

Then I am asked "Why didn't my machine complete validation?" And the answer
given is "You have encountered an unknown error. Please contact your local
support team for further assistance with this issue."

What do I do now?
