Hi
I recently changed a H/D on my computer and this activated Windows to ask
for re-activation because it said that i had signifficantly changed the
computer!! unfortunately i left activating it for over the 30 day period.

When I tried to do so via the activation wizard, I got as far as the
activation screen comming up but it was empty and just hung.

I found some advice, I think on a microsoft site somewhere (unfortunately I
can't remember where) which told me to open up in safe mode and go to the
"run" window and type in - rundll32.exe syssetup, setupOobeBnk and click run
which reset my 30 day activation period. So far so good. I then followed the
instructions and in "run" I keyed in c:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a
and then clicked ok. this did indeed bring up the Activation Wizard screen
but again it was blank and the hour glass just stayed there and nothing
happened. Since Microsoft don't want to know by phone the only way I have of
activating is by computer on line. Can anyone help me please. Its getting
very annoying.

yes - it is my genuine copy of XP

Many thanks for any help in advance
Regards

What does this sentence mean:

"Since Microsoft don't want to know by phone the only way I have of
activating is by computer on line" ? Microsoft 'don't want to know' what?

If you can't activate online you should call the number provided and
activate by phone.

Hi John john

Thank you for your reply. Firstly I don't know the phone number now and when
I did call them they were asking for the first six digits on the activation
code. My authentic windows XP label has banks of five numbers. and secondly,
unless I can get into the wizard in the first place, I will not know what my
activation code is going to be to let them know.

At the moment, I have a set of keys icon for wondows activation on the
startup line at the bottom and when I click on there it brings up the
actication window but apart from the line at the top saying activation wizard
the rest is blank and as I said it just has the hour glass there and doesn't
go away. Obviously it is searching for something.
I have checked in explorer and there is a file called msoobe.exe (size 29k)
in windows\system32\oobe so I can't understand why the wizard won't work.

If you have any more ideas on this, I would appreciate your help.

Regards

have you got any ideas
